Tomy Wai
Tomy Wai is a famous Hong Kong film composer and record producer. He was introduced by Tats Lau to film industry. “Thou Shalt Not Swear” was his first film scoring in 1993. His mentor Teddy Robbin inspired him a lot in exploring different music styles. Over the past 20 years, he worked with many directors like Tsui Hark, Derek Yee, Ann Hui and Wilson Yip. He has been scoring for more than 130 films and television dramas. Tomy has won and nominated for several film awards. In his early years, he was awarded the "Best Original Film Score" in Taiwan Golden Horse Award with “Temptation of Monk”(1993) . His recent work “Gallants”(2010) has also awarded the "Best Original Film Score" in the 30th Hong Kong Film Award. His original music in “Jiang hu: The Triad Zone”(2000) attracted an American film scholar to ask for an interview with him in Hong Kong. His music can also be found in tv dramas, commercials and animations on local and mainland China. In addition, he is a performer of a local music band J.O.Y and a teacher of film music. Tomy gathers up professional film composers to form the first Hong Kong Film Composers’ Association Limited for facilitating communication and nurturing future talents in 2019.
