Overview
China University of Communication is under the support of multidisciplinary groups in the field of Art and Science, with a first-class doctoral discipline and post-doctoral research center in Art and Information and Communication Engineering. Communication University of China enjoys a natural advantage of discipline groups to cultivate high-level interdisciplinary talents of Art and Science. The development of modern science and technology has brought about a comprehensive and profound impact on human production and life. The production, performance and study of art also bears a distinctive feature of times that influenced by the development of productive forces. The development of art is intertwined with scientific progress. The integration and innovation of art and science is a significant embodiment of the Scientific Development Concept in cultural construction. It is also an important content of constructing cultures in contemporary world. It is not merely the foundation of various original designs, but also the effective support of creative industry development. In order to promote the disciplines and talents of the art disciplines and take advantage of the disciplines of science and technology, we will give a full play to the advantages and talents of the school, especially to bridge the gap in the domestic academic research and promote the national culture, scientific & technological progress and knowledge innovation system Construction. Approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education, in February 2007 the new interdisciplinary of Art and Science is set up, [1]which not only reflects the CUC's own comprehensive academic advantage, but also the development trend of the times. Currently, it is unique and on the frontier in China and. Art and Science as the second-class discipline under the first-class discipline of Art, not only enrolls postgraduate and PhD graduates, also recruit post-doctoral researchers.
Disciplinary Orientation
The study of Art and Science is characterized with interdisciplinary integration, involving many disciplines such as Art, Art Psychology, Cognitive Science, Cognitive Psychology, Intelligent Science, New Media Art and Technology. The study of Art and Science starts from the basic phenomena and practical problems of artistic expression, exploring the theoretical and practical feasibility of communication and intercourse between art and science; it studies the science in art, as well as the art of science; It explores the new thinking and new methods of the two to promote a conducive interaction and development.[2]
Educational Objectives
It aims at cultivating high-level professional personnel morally, intellectually and physically, with a sense of innovation and team spirit, who are able to engage in research, education, creation, management and other aspects of work in the field of art and science. It cultivates high-level of interdisciplinary innovative talents in media, entertainment technology and other fields. The program requires students to grasp the basic theories and professional expertise. They will get the appropriate training of artistic accomplishment and artistic creativity. Student need to master a foreign language, an integrated use of the professional basic theory and expertise to carry out independent researches, art creation work or products and device design and development in the field of integrated innovation. They shall be competent to broaden their knowledge and carry on creative work.

At present, based on the disciplines and academic characteristics and advantages of China Communication University, the Master of Arts and Sciences has set up two research directions:

Artistic Expression and Scientific Cognition
The study of Artistic Expression and Scientific Cognition, starting from visual arts performance, basic phenomena of auditory art and practical problems, employs scientific method to study the audience's perception of various forms of artistic expression and cognition. This direction is committed to the field of cutting-edge and basic research, to promote the integration and application of art and science theory innovation, together with promotion of the development of art and science disciplines. This direction mainly aims to cultivate students to grasp Art Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Science, Intelligent Science and other related theories and research methods. The main research contents at this stage include:
- Design and evaluation of artistic image;
- Art style analysis and confirmation in visual and auditory works;
- Artistic image of the scene environment-friendly theory;
- Artistic expression of the subjective and objective evaluation of harmonious theory;
- Plot interest and emotional analysis theory;
- User experience analysis theory;
- Artistic Expression and Audience Illusion Psychology.
Artistic Virtual Reality and Interaction
The research on the direction of art virtual reality and interaction is targeted at the intersection of art and science, explores the new dimension of artistic theory, opens up a new horizon of artistic creation, and focuses on the frontier and basic practical problem analysis, advocates new thinking of art and science integration, and promotes the benign interaction and development of art and science. It mainly cultivates students to master the art of virtual reality, art psychology, cognitive science, artificial intelligence and other related theories and methods. The main research contents at this stage include:
- Artistic virtual scene and interaction;
- Virtual representation and traditional culture inheritance;
- Virtual stereoscopic vision art and technology;
- Virtual music and virtual sound;
- Perception of virtual art roles and artificial intelligence;
- E-sport analysis theory;

Audio-visual Art and Science
Art and Science is a newly emerging interdisciplinary subject covering both art and science. Based on the basic laws of artistic expression, this program adopts scientific theory and methods, from the perspective of scientific cognition, art design, artistic expression, artistic communication and artistic acceptance, etc. to explore the art of practical problems in the analysis, and to explore new ideas and methods in the art and science , so as toto promote a healthy interaction and development of the two, and broaden the academic vision and enriching research methods in the fields of arts, pushing forward artistic creation and practice. The study of audio-visual art and science starts from the basic phenomena and practical problems of artistic expression, and discusses the feasibility of communication, integration of theory and practice in audio-visual art, art and science, and explores the new thinking, new methods of the integration of art and science, promoting a benign interaction and development of art and science.
